The Uncertainty of the Future

Once you turn approximately 16 years old, the questions start. "What are you going to major in? What do you want to do? Where do you want to move?" I remember when 16 year old me was asked these same questions. It made me feel behind. I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life at that age. Many people don't. Fast forward to 20 years old, people still ask the same kind of questions. And my answer is the same, "I don't know yet." As young adults, we have so much pressure to make these big decisions like where are we gonna move? What company will we work for? What exactly do we wanna do for a career? Some people know the exact answers to these questions, and that's great. A lot of people do not, including myself.
Fun fact, I am actually graduating a whole year early (if all goes well). So I will be a college graduate next spring. This is exciting, yet also scary. I know I am in the right major God has called me to, hospitality, and I know what industry I want to go into, events. But I don't know details. I don't know what kind of events I want to manage just yet. I have no clue where in the country I want to move, since I've only ever lived in Florida. It's stressful times. And the clock is ticking for me to "figure it out."
But, in our Christian faith, it's kind of the same thing in every season one may walk through. We don't know what lies ahead in an hour, a day, a month, a year. But we do know God. We know that He loves us, and we know He wants the best for us. We know He's going to lead us in the path He wants us to go into in His timing. We know that His plan is much greater than ours. Sometimes, it's easy to focus on the things we don't know, rather than the things we do know. We get caught up in the unknowns of life and all of these future decisions we're gonna have to make, but what if we started thinking instead of the knowns in life? We know that God is going to take care of us. We can rest in that. We know that He will lead us to make the right decision at the right time. We know that He will not lead us astray.
When making a hard decision, have you ever felt that feeling in your gut that you should turn down that job or step forward and move into that new city? Maybe it was even a feeling you felt in a friendship or romantic relationship. It's a feeling, a little nudging, of what you should do. Guess what? That's the Holy Spirit! If you don't feel peace about something, don't go through with it. I do realize though, that there are times we may not hear God clearly. And in those times, we have to continue to draw near to God and spend time in lots and lots of prayer. It's also beneficial to talk it over with people we love and trust who can give good counsel.
The point is, we're not supposed to know everything. And honestly, I don't know if I would even want to know everything. I think if we saw the future and everything that is to come, it would actually cause more chaos and stress. God is the only one who can see the big picture and that's how it's supposed to be. Throughout our lives, God slowly reveals piece by piece of the big picture of our lives. It's a whole lot less overwhelming that way, don't you think?
I hope you can find some encouragement in this blog. I am writing this for myself as well. We can trust in the fact that God will put us in the right place at the right time with the right people. We can have some peace in that. Thanks for reading! Until next time!!
